Takahata Town, cradled by beautiful mountains and gentle countryside, is said to have been inhabited from over 10,000 years ago, with famous sites like the Ichi-no-Sawa and Hinata Caves. Takahata is also the home of one of Japan's most celebrated children's authors, Hamada Hirosuke. The town has constructed a 6 kilometer-long cycling road named Mahoroba-no-Michi ("paradise road"), which is perfect for renting a bicycle and touring the numerous historic sites. In addition, the rebuilt Takahata Station on the Yamagata Shinkansen line is complete with its own hot spring.
